sunday chit chat; life beyond the blog.

Sunday, December 09, 2012

So the weekly Sunday #bbloggers chat was about your blogging story, and what keeps you blogging to this date as well as what inspires you and keeps you going. I'm sure you've noticed, but i've been having a hard time finding motivation to blog lately and I figured now was the best time as of any to sit down with a cuppa and have a little chatter with you all. This is something I do most weeks, either whether it's with my friends on the phone, to my friends all over the world on Skype or just in the kitcken with my ma, but i'm a big talker in life. I sometimes think that you can lose sight of who the blogger behind the blog is and with something as materialistic as a beauty blog, it's good to remember that we're all real people with real lives and thus the basis of the blog appeal to begin with - something beyond a corporate giant. Something real. I'm no corporate or even business blogger, I do make money from blogging and i'm very privileged to have been to some amazing events and meet some amazing brands but honestly? It's so much more to me than that.

Starting my blog has opened my eyes to a world of girls that I never knew existed. Meeting people who are huge rocks in my life and make me happy on a completely daily basis from people who are kindred spirits to me and who i've cried and laughed in the arms of like Lily right the way through to the one woman who inspires me more than anyone else in the world: Jen, these girls have now become some of my closest ever friends. There are far too many to mention, but i'm sure you've seen our friendship world unveil on Twitter. A little about me, i'm a huge people person. I love people. I'm that girl that'll start chatting to a random person at the bar, or compliment a complete stranger on their hair or nails because i'm fascinated by people. I love people's stories, people's lives and even the way they style their hair - that's why I read so many of your beautiful blogs. Life is enriched by the fact that fundamentally we're all the same person but skin deep we're made entirely different, and that's what makes us who we are.

I think to go forward with blogging and to expand and enrich your own life as I have my own, don't lose sight of who you are or what you stand for. Don't sell your soul for a lipstick, be desperately poor, live off the grid, be creative, be happy. Skip lying in your bed and say "yes" to things. You're probably tired, maybe you've been at work all day. Perhaps you didn't have time for a shower. But if you're invited to something new and fresh, embrace it, grab it. Heck, I grab every single opportunity I get so quickly I could be considered to be snatching experiences out of offering hands. You might get drunk and get lost in the middle of your city, but you'll find your way home. You will meet new people and you will dive head first into things you never in a million years thought you could do.

Your blog is your space, and ensure that in 2013 you do everything it takes to make it yours. Personally, I will be shifting away from the solid product reviews and not really covering products singly any more, but blogging more about the lifestyle I live in beauty and digging deep into my make up collection to create whole looks, rather than swatches and low downs. I hope you enjoy this as much as i'll enjoy revamping and giving a new lease of life to TLL. Don't be a sheep, do a Snoop and be a Lion. In 2012, bloggers influenced so many of the fashion world's decisions, creating nail trends, causing a ruckus, and generally sticking it to the man that we know our shit and we intend on creating the future. Stand up tall, create your trend, be your own person and say yes to everything that comes your way. It wont hurt you, don't be afraid.

Remember, people don't sit up in years to come and tell their kids about the night they got an early night's sleep, do they? I'm definitely going to hell, but i'll have all the best stories to tell.
Happy Sunday, Love Zozo

  1. Zo, I have to say you totally inspired me when I first started blogging, and I love how excited and welcoming you were when I first met you at an event. :)
Think we all get worried about our blogs, or ourselves at times, but as you say, give it a yes and who knows what'll happen.

  2. "Remember, people don't sit up in years to come and tell their kids about the night they got an early night's sleep, do they?" <- THIS I'm going to start telling myself this every time I get anxious about a situation or opportunity. I could do with the extra push. Brilliant, I like posts like these. :)

  4. I love your blog so much Zoe!! Thanks for being a constant inspiration. I'm trying to blog more about lifestyle these days, rather than doing yet another product review that is exactly the same as 482829339291 other people's! The blogosphere is massive right now and I'm very glad to be part of it :) xxx

  6. This is such an amazing post! Like you, I find people's stories so intriguing and inspiring, but sometimes I can feel uncomfortable sharing my own life on my blog or in general. That's one thing I really love about blogging! Online; I can learn about people, read about their stories and share some of my own without feeling as self-conscious or shy.

I'm constantly saying to myself I should say yes more and take more risks instead of making excuses not to do things, it's definitely going to be my 'resolution' next year.

  8. Oh you beautiful lady - this is such an incredible post and really inspiring too. It's lovely to learn a little more about you and I really hope I get to create some great friendships through blogging like you have :) I've been feeling a bit funny with my blog recently as I've been worrying about whether it's 'successful' and whether I'm interesting enough to have a blog (especially after reading Company's superbloggers issue!) but this post reminds me to just love what I do and I really want to just embrace everything like you said :) Thank you for such a fantastic post <3

  11. 'Remember, people don't sit up in years to come and tell their kids about the night they got an early night's sleep, do they?'
I am going to stick this on my wall to remind me when I am having a bad day or feeling like I want to hide under the duvet that its not worth it and to pick myself up and keep on going.
Thank you for such an inspirational post. xx

  12. Before I started reading beauty blogs (and blogs in general), I was just another girl going to college to get an arts degree because it seemed like the next logical step after school. Since then, I've realised that I want to be a professional make up artist, not another graduate with no real job prospects. I'm not my best self when I'm sitting in an exam hall, but actually being out in the world, working with people is where I feel great. It's given me the opportunity to learn a skill and to share what I've learned through my own blog, even though I'm only a beginner! x

  21. This is such an inspiring blog post! I have been feeling a bit distant from my blog recently but 2013 is a new year and this has made me feel really motivated! xo

  22. Great post and really motivating, especially as next year I really need to sort my life out and get it moving in the right direction. Whenever I lack inspiration I remind myself if I work my butt off now it will reward me later, hard work to have the career and life you love suddenly feels like nothing.

I look forward to seeing your blog evolve, it sounds like a really interesting change actually so I reckon I'm going to love the new and improve TLL!

  23. An awesome and inspiring post, topped off with my favourite Frank Turner lyric - always makes me smile! My blog is not huge in size but has brought me so many opportunities and friends that I wouldn't be without it, and it's worth every late night spent scheduling posts, every heavy handbag from lugging my camera around and every nervous flutter before a meetup. Thankyou for the inspiration. xo

  26. What a great post Zoe :) I only recently fell in love with your blog, but I really relate to this post and the way you're talking about blogging. Blogging is much more than talking about things you like, or commenting and posting. It's about gaining new relationships with people and striking up friendships. More importantly, it's about doing something you love.
