my 60 day hair pill experiment - day 1

Saturday, April 30, 2011
So, it's the late 90s and my hair was lovely. Really long, a perfect chocolate brown colour and just rich and full in body. At the age of 13 I began having it dyed and ever since it's been butchered with dye for at least once a month/every two months since. As a result, I am approaching 22 in less than a month's time and i'll be honest, a tiny bit worried about perhaps having to ask for wigs for birthday gifts in future birthdays..

As a solution, I heard about hair pills. I originally wanted to take pills to help improve me in general, I am quite unfit, don't always get the nutrients I want and am defiecient in things that help me run better. I want to be able to jump here there and everywhere with a spring in my step and I will try any natural enhancements that will help me do so with ease. I was contacted by a pr company for Herb UK, who offered to send me 60 days worth of hair pills to trial that will not only improve my hair but provide me with natural goodness that should help me feel better, and help my skin and nails too.

I've heard all kinds of stories about hair pills, some good and some bad but you know what I really want to give it a go. The pills I will be taking are Herb UK Hair Supplements, which retail at £12.99 - pretty affordable, if effective. I will take one a day, so in 60 days time I might be able to see some improvement..

Checking in on day one, i've popped my first pill yesterday and so far so good. No immediate side effects as of yet.

Stay tuned in the coming months to see what these pills do to me! Let's hope I don't turn into Violet Beauregarde!

What do you think of the idea of taking hair pills? Have you tried them? Do you want to see some youtube vids of me reviewing the products so you can see the hair better? Do you really think popping a pill is a solution to things like this?

also i'm sorry my blog has had to take a bit of a backburner at the minute, i've just been so busy and when i've not been busy i've been crazy tired! it'll be back next week I promise :) xx

i've had all my hair chopped off!

Wednesday, April 27, 2011
Okay so those of you who follow me on twitter (@londonlipgloss) should have seen me tweeting copious amounts about wanting to revamp my hairstyle ready for the festival season and well, i couldn't think of a better way to do it than to go for the big chop! I was pretty scared, but I think the end result is wicked, and I've had another pink flash put in my fringe cause well, I just couldn't live without a bit of pink!

I wasn't sure whether to keep my big fringe or not but general consensus was to go for my old school side fringe style, proper old school emo! My hair colour has been darkened a bit too, so it blends in a bit better with my eyebrows and looks a bit more natural for my tone. It's not quite black, just a really dark brown. :)

What do you think of my new haircut? I really like it, it's totally different to what i'm used to and I am loving having a bit of my pink back!! I'm known for being a bit radical with my hair, hope i've not taken it too far by going for the proper chop this time!! Please let me know what you think!

topshop crayon in equinox

Friday, April 22, 2011
Happy Easter! Hope yours is going to be great. I started mine last night celebrating with Frank as he reached his 1,000th show played and had a wonderful time. Tonight sees Del leaving me to run riot running my first solo promote with This Is Not Revolution Rock, it's at the Cricketers in Kingston and there's Lone Wolf, Katie Malco, Matt Emery and Liam Dullaghan. Doors are at 7.30 and it's only £4 entry! Come and support Zozo! Also follow me throughout the night on twitter @tinrrlondon . Anyway Saturday i'm off to Cambs for an Easter weekend with my parents and back to the fold on Tuesday, phew. Lots happening for Z.

Anyway, quite some time ago now I bought the newer version of last years popular Topshop Make Up Crayons, and it's softer and lighter so I thought i'd share with you some photos and swatches.

Photobucket

I love these crayons because they're so easy to apply. You literally just swipe them over your eyelids (not too heavily) and either use them on their own or as a base for colour. I still love the Topshop packaging, I think it's wicked. I think it suits the brand and it's really recognisably Topshop as soon as you see it! This is gold and sparkly and totally up my street.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

This one is a very soft highlight colour on me so works so well as an alternative base to my beloved MAC Paint Pots. They're very creamy and pigmented and pretty much my favourite part of the Topshop Make Up collection.

Photobucket

Photobucket

See how lightly coloured it is on my pale skin, it works so well just under my eyebrows as a little brow highlight too. I've been using it lately in a lot of my fotds so you've probably heard me mention it a lot! I find that it's pretty long lasting too and I sometimes just flash it on over my eyelids for a little sparkles at work and it stays all day without creasing, it does just 'clump' up a little bit, especially in the corner of my eye.

It retails for £8.50 at Topshop or online.

I'm well happy with this purchase, £8.50 is a bargain price for a product I do rate so highly. This is my second crayon and I can't wait to see which crayons they bring out in the future! My only advice is to buy it online as i've been in stores and not seen it very much - seems everyone else loves it as much as I do.

What do you all think of Topshop make up? I spend so much money in there! Do you own this and/or have an alternative way of using it? Let me know!
I'm off to get ready for the gig now,

superdrug mua eyeliners

Thursday, April 21, 2011
Hey everyone. Most of you should be aware of the MUA range available in Superdrug by Superdrug. Everything in this range retails at just £1 each, yup, everything, and thus making it quite an affordable brand for younguns' and people just looking to experiment with colour. I've tried and reviewed the eyeshadows before and thought some of them were great but others not so much, and so I decided to pick up two of the eyeliners to try too.

Photobucket

Weird thing about these was, although they were exactly the same eyeliner (I checked n' everything!) one of them had a really thick brush, and the other a really thin one. Hmm. See below.

Photobucket

Now I must say out of the two, the gold one applied better. Not only was the brush thicker and thus easier to work with, it also stayed in place and didn't budge all day long. The silvery one is actually quite opaque when applied and tends to rub off quite easily. Also it had a thinner, scratchier brush that was just a nightmare to apply. Weird.

I didn't take any photos but i'm going to do some more summer eye looks on a budget and I'm confident these will be included.

Photobucket

So one up, one down for the MUA eyeliners, I think i'll check out the stand and see if it's just a weird glitch that one was thinner or whether they did design the silvery one a bit differently. Either way, they were a pound, so it's not like i'm grumbling really!

What do you think about the MUA range? I've heard good things about their nail polishes so I think I might check those out next. Is there anything you want to see reviewed? I'll definitely do some eye looks with these, i'm thinking I might do a budget youtube tutorial including them so stay tuned!

tresemme and vo5 launch event

Wednesday, April 20, 2011
Hey everyone, apologies for the short break in posts this week, you can blame Del entirely as his laptop has broken and he seems to think it perfectly acceptable to kidnap mine and hold it hostage, grr.
Last Thursday I had the honour and pleasure of meeting some lovely people at the Soho Hotel for the relaunch of vo5 and the new launches from Tresemme. Not only did I walk in to a sea of friendly faces, I also was greeted by the lovely people from both companies and also from the pr. We had wine and nibbles and were then firstly told about the new vo5 launch with demonstrations on gorgeous models!

Photobucket

The team explained about the new relaunch, the debate about the pink tone of the bottles, and the qualities and properties of each product. The hairdresser demonstrated a few key looks with the products that were really easy to replicate at home.

Photobucket

Photobucket

There were all these sweet touches like these potion bottles on the table, filled with different products and labelled simply by a coloured ribbon - symbolising each different scent. Apparantly the most used scent from the range is based on Chanels' Chance, a very common feminine scent, very symbolic. Fleur, Fei and I had much fun sniffing them all and deciding which was our favourite, if i remember rightly I think the purple one came up trumps with all parties, and I think it was the Conditioner!

Photobucket

We then got a chance to play with all the products and Caroline and I absolutely loved the scent and the look of the Conditioning Hair Mask, yum.

Photobucket

^modelled by Fei, available for hand photo work, haha

After the vo5 launch, the doors opened and a whole new world of Tresemme was introduced to us. We met the gorgeous Matthew Curtis (of Next Top Model fame) who talked us through each of the products, demonstrating some of them on the equally as gorgeous Tanya.

Photobucket

Photobucket

He then did everyones hair to their taste and gave me the most beautiful 50's do. I've never seen my hair look so beautiful before and I just did not want to take it out at all. I loved everything Matt did, he's so crazy talented - whipped it up in about 15 minutes while we had a lovely chat about our mutual flesh tunnel love and our eternal love for Download Festival!

Overall I had such a lovely time, and after spending a good 30 minutes or so helping Nicola, Gem and Sara get ready (or hindering it, either one!) I popped out with them for a quick drink before heading back to my bed! Here's our outfits from the night:

If you want to see me chatting rambles about all the products, and get a sneaky peek of what they all look like, check my Youtube video of the event here:

Thanks again to Tresemme and VO5 for inviting me and being so generous! I can't wait to give you more indepth reviews once i've used all the products for a little while.
What do you want to see in particular? Any of these products catching your eye? Will you be investing in any of the vo5 relaunch or the new tresemme brand products?

FRANK TURNER TICKETS WINNER!

Wednesday, April 20, 2011
Ahhhh i'm so so excited to be announcing this. All of you lovely girls that bravely entered to be in with a chance of meeting Frank are so lovely and I want to take you all and party with you all but I just can't. This show is gonna be a blinder and I can't wait to share it with....

KIRSTI X
from http://kirstix.blogspot.com/

!!

I absolutely loved Kirsti's comment because she said that not only did she love Frank herself but it would make her boyfriend's life complete as he's one of Frank's biggest fans. She said they'd been to his every London show and I just know that Frank is going to love the dedication, and will enjoy meeting you both as much as I will.

I will of course inform you of all the details, but I will not be sending tickets to you Kirsti, instead i'll meet you outside the venue with the tickets (we can always meet in Starbucks beforehand if you like).

In the meantime if you could email me at zoelouisehellewell@hotmail.co.uk to confirm you are able to attend and we can organise from there! Just to confirm you have won TWO tickets to this show, they are in my hand as we speak!

Congrats Kirsti, and i'm really looking forward to meeting you on the 26th May as much as Frank Turner is too!

The other winners of my make up giveaway are going to be announced really soon so keep your eyes peeled for that. In the meantime I just want to say a big big thankyou to everyone who entered, it really meant a lot to me that you were just as happy to celebrate my 500 followers as much as me. And who knows, if this is just the 500 follower giveaway maybe we can get 1,000 in time for Reading tickets... ahah I jest, but this music and makeup theme will definitely run through my competitions in the future.

Lots of kisses and love, Zozo xxx

disclaimer, if tickets are not claimed by Friday they will be redrawn.

soft summer style - playsuits

Monday, April 18, 2011
Hey everyone, hope you all had a lovely weekend. I spent mine at work on Saturday and then watching Del play an acoustic gig in Dorking Saturday night, followed by Del playing another acoustic gig in a park in Epsom on Sunday followed by singing some gang vocals on the new Tubelord album with a handful of awesome people and then we finally got home and recorded the boyfriend tag on youtube.
Loving the sunshine, fortunately managed not to burn myself yay. Hope everyone who ran the marathon enjoyed it and did well and sincere apologies for not blogging over the weekend, so tired!

So as you should all be well aware I work in Gap and of course I have to wear Gap as uniform. I thought i'd share with you what I thought was honestly one of the nicest Gap pieces we've had in for a while from our new Summer collection - it is my uniform but I do think it has practical purposes outside of work, not to mention that it's so so soft and feels like pajamas..mmm!

Photobucket

Playsuit - Gap £19
Shoes - Primark £6

Photobucket

I really love how simple it is, so great for just throwing on in the Summer sun, especially on holiday. I'm getting totally in the mood for my holiday to Turkey and my wardrobe is really feeling it. I teamed my playsuit with some little Primark sailor pumps for ultimate cuteness! I totally forgot to include a closeup but don't worry they will feature in another outfit post shortly I promise you!

Photobucket

I'm really looking around for more playsuits especially after my lovely Topshop floral one I bought a few weeks ago, and now this plainer Gap version. What do you think of the playsuit style? Boohoo.com have such a lovely range, i've been daydreaming about owning some including these:

Of course they do have slight impracticalities - mainly being that you can't go to the toilet easily, well not without getting entirely undressed of course - so not really the ideal festival outfit, however they do really feel so so comfortable and they're my new wardrobe staple!

What do you think of playsuits? Would you consider a gander at the Gap collection (i'll admit, some is a bit funky but there are some nice pieces like this!)? Can you recommend any you think may suit me? Let me know, I do love to hear from y'all, makes my day!
Lots of love, Zozo xxx

an early vivienne westwood birthday present

Thursday, April 14, 2011
Ahhh! It's my birthday on the 12th May and well, my Mum already bought my main gift months ago. I went home for Mothers Day and she got so excited I was there and didn't want it to be 'wasted' sitting in her cupboard so she decided to give it to me then and there so I could get some use out of them. Luckily for me, my family know me incredibly well and they got me two gifts from Vivienne Westwood!

Photobucket

Eeeee! I was so so excited. The first gift was this gorgeous orb choker:

Photobucket

Photobucket

I already have the classic orb necklace, which you can probably see in every single post as I never take it off, and my Mum picked this choker to give me more of a nightout option. It's way chunkier, proper punk and definitely my necklace of choice to team with my leather bomber on gig nights out!

Then the second gift...:

Photobucket

Photobucket

This gorgeous tartan purse! Over Christmas I had my purse stolen in London and it was a really plush Ted Baker purse that i'd had since I was about 18. I was devastated so Mum picked me out this beautiful tartan purse to replace the other one I miss so dearly.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Gosh I love it so so much! I am very lucky, although i've ruined my birthday a little bit I really don't mind, and i'm so thrilled for such lovely gifts. If you've been reading TLL for a while you'd know how much I heart Vivienne and these are both gorgeous welcome additions to my collection!

What do you think of Vivienne Westwood? Sorry if anyone took offense to me sharing my gifts I was just so excited and think they're too gorgeous not to share!

sleek make up palette eyeshadow looks - bad girl

Wednesday, April 13, 2011
Hey everyone, happy midweek. At the Sleek event I got the chance to pick a Sleek palette of my choice, and I picked the Bad Girl palette. Chosen because of the dark, smokey colours I knew we'd be friends! The only other Sleek palette I own is the Circus palette which is full of brights so I couldn't wait to start playing about with this.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

So there are twelve shades as with all Sleek palettes and this one has colours ranging from white sparkles, to silvers, to blacks and then blues and purples.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

I decided to create three looks showing you how to get the best out of the Bad Girl palette. Most of this post is going to be just photographs and not many words as the make up is all from the palette! My mascara is MAC Opulash. First thing I have to say is just look how pigmented they are!

Sorry that was very very picture heavy. I don't want to make this post too long, just thought i'd give you an insight as to what you can do with this palette. I'm in love with it, it's so rock and roll and so Zozo. If you see any looks i've done or fancy seeing a look with some of the shades let me know as i'm planning on doing my first ever youtube makeup tutorial!

What do you think of the Sleek Bad Girl palette? What other palettes do I need to get my hands on? Which looks to do you want to see more of in a tutorial?
