every girl should own - all that glitters

Sunday, February 14, 2010
Good evening, and I hope you have had a wonderful day. Again, a huge thank you to new followers, I appreciate it so much and i'm having a lot of fun having a look around all of your blogs.

I've decided to start my own series of blog posts called "Every Girl Should Own" and each post will feature one item that I feel is a staple! Be it a sparkly wearable piece of jewellery, a you-need-this-in-your-wardrobe piece of clothing, the nail varnish that will keep you looking at your nails all day, a seriously must-have pair of shoes or a gorgeous piece of makeup these will all be my personal recommendations. I am not being paid to write any of these reviews, I bought everything myself. Everything I am reviewing with regard to skin care and make up has been tested and works on my skin but what works for me may not work for you, so please always keep that in mind.

This is a rave about a product I think you'll have heard a lot about previously, so I apologise in advance if it is not interesting to you but honestly it is my go-to when i'm in need of a quick eyeshadow fix!

It is "All That Glitters" Eyeshadow by MAC. It is part of their permanent collection and retails for £11 in the pot or £9 if you own a palette and want it in the pan. Honestly? It should be in every make up lovers' collection. I grab it if I'm going to work, going out or just fancy a wash of colour for the walk to the supermarket. It's actually fairly new to my collection and to be honest I don't know how I went without it for so long! My mum picked it up for me at the Bicester CCO* last year because she knew I liked MAC and she liked the shade name - I was thrilled when I received it!

I remember being so intimidated by MAC eyeshadows in the store at first because there simply are so many. I'd heard rave reviews about a quite a few but honestly had no idea where to start - especially on a tight budget! If i had known this information now i'd have definitely left the store that very first day with All That Glitters - I would recommend this shade to everyone.

From using this i'd say that All That Glitters is a soft golden beige colour that blends very well. It feels buttery soft in consistency - probably due to the fact it's a Veluxe Pearl - and the texture is very finely milled. It's sparkly but not overbearing and doesn't leave any horrible chunks of glitter all over your cheeks. I wear this sometimes all by it's self as a wash over my eyelid for work, it's just enough sparkle to bring colour to your eyes without being all overbearing, perfect for the office. It's definitely too dark for a highlight colour on me although I am very pale (nc15 or lighter) but I can see it working well as a highlight on warmer toned ladies.

The London Lipglosses' Recommended uses//
Daytime:
A soft peach as a highlight (e.g Hush), All That Glitters all over the lid and a dark grey on the outer corner (e.g Print, Smut). A splash of mascara and you're ready to go!

Nighttime:
A sparkly gold as a highlight (e.g Dazzlelight, Ricepaper, Shroom), All That Glitters all over the lid, a dark brown in the crease (e.g Tempting, Woodwinked), a dark black in the outer corner (e.g Carbon, Black Tied). A thin line of liquid eyeliner and mascara and let's go party!

Do you already own All That Glitters? What do you think? Is it your go to? Or do you hate All That Glitters with a passion? Tell me in the comments, I love to have a chat!

Lots of love, Zoe-Louise xoxox

Oh and before I go, here is a photograph I took earlier of the rose my boyfriend picked up for me (I also got some Lush goodies which I will review later and Ugly Betty season 1!) Hope you had a wonderful Valentines Day.

  2. I think i must have used about 4 or 5 'all that glitters shadows' in a few years. Its one of the best highlighters on my skin color (which is quite dark so i can imagine its a bit more of a shadow color for pale skin)
I think its one of my few must have shades.

My must haves (for mac pallets are)
All That Glitters, Brule, wedge, Club, Greensmoke & Black Tied! x

  4. @emily thankyou so much. it definitely does, i'd be lost without it! thanks for following too x

@tali i don't actually have any of the other MAC e/s you listed, my credit card may be taking a bashing! i love that it just goes to show that everyone wears ATG differently and it certainly fulfills all those uses on so many different girls! big love for that, i think it's quite a rare find in that it is universally suited. some MAC eyeshadows that have looked a-mazing on darker skinned ladies have looked rubbish on me so ATG is a clear winner and i'm so glad i found it! thanks for the comment, i love your blog and draw inspiration from it so it means a lot xo

@michelle thankyou! i know everyone this side of the moon says it but MAC eyeshadows really are super pigmented and i know they are pricey (couldnt believe the price tag at first! a am a student y'know MAC!) i think they are worth it. thanks so much for following and i hope you like the rest of my blog! xo
